First Step e-mail addresses use the format:
username@domain.com or username@city.com or username@firststepinternet.com
All of our @domain.com and @city.com addresses point to the same e-mail server -- @firststepinternet.com. Therefore any e-mail sent to your username@anycity.com will go to your mailbox. For example, if your e-mail address is bob@moscow.com, you will also receive all e-mail sent to bob@asotin.com and bob@orofino-id.com. Our e-mail services were set up this way for customer convenience.
Unfortunately, spammers take advantage of this arrangement and frequently send spam to your username@anycity.com. You can solve this problem using your e-mail client to filter out all e-mail that is not sent to your username@city.com.
The most common method of accessing e-mail is by using an e-mail client that resides on your computer. Please click on one of the links below to learn more about the setup for your e-mail client.

For our dialup customers: First Step Internet is happy to announce we will be working with our telephone company partners to make some changes to our dialup internet service. We hope to see improved signal-to-noise characteristics on the new lines which will translate to smoother performance for you and we look forward to other features down the road.
Because of this change, we need you to change your email client so that it will properly identify itself when sending emails. This change has several important benefits not least of which is that it helps in the fight against spam by stopping unauthorized people from sending messages.
Your email address is NOT changing. We just need your client to authenticate itself when trying to send email.
The change is a simple one - you need to tell your email client to authenticate itself when sending. We have compiled guides on how to do that for many of the major email programs. The change should take only a few minutes of your time to complete and is necessary to ensure uninterrupted email service. We thank you for taking the time to make this change and if you have any questions or concerns please contact us right away at: techsupport@fsr.com or toll-free at 888-676-6377
Thanks!

Dear First Step Customer,
Over the last few days we have noticed a rash of emails claiming that our email server has been upgraded to a secure version. These emails ask you to click a link in order to verify account information.
These are called "phishing" emails and are trying to trick you into going to a malicious web page where they can infect your computer with malware.
Please delete these emails right away. We never send emails to our customers asking them to verify account information. That's a big warning sign that the email is malicious in nature.
In the future, if you receive a suspicious email please feel free to contact our technical support department at techsupport@fsr.com and we will be happy to confirm whether we sent the message.
Thank you for being our customer!
